Beijing's Drive for Domestic Chip Production in Electric Vehicles

Reported 3 days ago

China is intensifying efforts to increase the manufacturing of domestic chips for electric vehicles (EVs), aiming to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. Currently, about 15% of chips used in Chinese cars are locally produced, but this figure is expected to rise as Beijing implements policies to support local semiconductor manufacturers. The growing presence of China's EV market provides an opportunity for local chip companies, despite challenges in achieving complete self-sufficiency. Industry players are adapting by forming partnerships and localizing production to remain competitive amidst ongoing U.S.-China tech tensions.
