Despite falling behind 7-0, Birmingham-Southern rallied late but ultimately lost their DIII College World Series opener to Salve Regina 7-5. The Panthers, playing amidst the closure of their school after 168 years, faced setbacks as Salve Regina took the lead with key plays from players like Brady Smolinski and Tyler Cannoe. Although BSC brought the go-ahead run to bat in the ninth inning, they were unable to overcome Salve Regina's lead, setting up a do-or-die game for them against the loser of another matchup to avoid elimination in the tournament.
