Blue-Green Legislators Clash Again! DPP Legislator Occupies Chairman's Seat to Block Amendment of 'Recall and Dismissal Act'

Reported about 1 year ago

During the review of amendments to the 'Recall and Dismissal Act for Public Officials' in the Legislative Yuan on July 4th, 2024, including the proposal by KMT Legislator Hsu Yu-chen to raise the recall threshold, DPP legislators preemptively occupied the chairman's podium and speaking platform, preventing the meeting from starting and blocking the KMT from sending the bill out of the committee. This led to clashes between KMT and DPP legislators, with physical altercations breaking out between KMT Legislator Hsu Chiao-hsin and DPP Legislator Wang Mei-hui and Chang Hung-lu. The meeting was chaired by committee convener Kao Chin-su-mei, despite her illness. The proposed amendment conditions include not allowing recalls for officials in office for less than a year, and requiring the recall approval votes to exceed the official's election votes and reach at least a quarter of the total election zone voters.
