Hualien Railroad Police Bureau received a report from Taiwan Railways Corporation in late May regarding the theft of cables along the Hualien Port Line, causing signal abnormalities and severely impacting train operations. After setting up a special task force and laying in wait, the police caught the thief, who had disguised himself as a railway worker, attempting to cut electric cables. The 40-year-old suspect was arrested with tools, admitted to the crime, and was detained for theft and public endangerment crimes. The police warned about the dangers of damaging railway cables, emphasizing increased patrols to prevent such incidents in the future.
