Since the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, foreign tourists have been returning to South Korea rapidly, but tourism revenue has been slower to recover. To adapt to the changing trend towards independent travel and a preference for cultural experiences over shopping, Seoul is enhancing infrastructure for tourists and improving visa systems by launching the 'Korean Cultural Training Visa' for individuals attending cultural training programs like K-POP. Seoul aims to attract 30 million visitors and generate over 970 billion Taiwan dollars in tourism revenue by 2027 through various tourism policies. Despite the tourist influx, spending by foreign visitors remains cautious, impacting industries like duty-free shopping where leaders like Lotte reported significant losses.
