On the morning of July 8, 2024, at 12:02 a.m., Lin Yiting, a Democratic Progressive Party Tainan City councilor, had her father, Lin Shijie, shot and killed outside their home as he left at 5 a.m., with the assailant firing 9 shots. Lin's mother expressed her grief as Lin Yiting and her father had a close relationship, and now her father is tragically killed. Lin Shijie was shot multiple times in the chest at close range and passed away despite emergency medical efforts, with 9 bullet casings found at the scene. The police suspect premeditated murder and are actively investigating the shooter and any possible accomplices.
