On July 5, 2024, the Taiwanese fishing vessel 'Fuyang 266' was intercepted by Japanese authorities near Amami Oshima, allegedly entering the nearby waters in violation of local fishing regulations. The vessel and its 8 crew members were detained for investigation, prompting Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intervene and express concerns. Latest update reveals that the Japanese authorities have agreed to release the ship and crew upon payment of a fine of 6,600,000 yen (approximately 1.21 million New Taiwan dollars), with the ship owner preparing to make the payment.
