Waymo has begun testing its robotaxi service in Philadelphia and New York City, indicating a desire to enter the Northeastern market. This involves mapping the cities with a fleet of vehicles equipped with its autonomous driving system. While these tests are not a commercial launch, they follow previous successful road trips that have led to operational services. In NYC, Waymo plans to map areas from Central Park to Downtown Brooklyn, although regulatory challenges remain before implementing autonomous driving there. The company is rolling out similar tests while expanding its commercial services in other U.S. cities.
