Former Taoyuan Mayor and current chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Zheng Wen-Can, was brought in for questioning by Taoyuan prosecutors regarding a land corruption case. After overnight interrogation, Zheng was detained and denied bail by the Taoyuan court, sparking turmoil in the political scene. Zheng's lawyer arrived at the Taoyuan District Court in the morning, and later in the afternoon, the court ruled to set Zheng's bail at 5 million, with restrictions on residence and travel. Taoyuan prosecutors promptly lodged an appeal against the court's decision.
