British Upgrades 'Sting Ray' Anti-Submarine Torpedo to Enhance Operational Flexibility

Reported about 1 year ago

On July 5, 2024, the Youth Daily reported that BAE Systems has signed a contract with the UK Ministry of Defense to conduct a Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) on the current 'Sting Ray' light anti-submarine torpedo, evolving it into the 'Sting Ray' Mod 2 version. The upgrade, totaling £60.1 million (approximately NT$2.55 billion), aims to enhance the operational flexibility of unmanned underwater vehicles in anti-submarine operations. By improving the operating interface and weapon combat effectiveness, increasing the compatibility with the T-600 and T-650 heavy UAVs for deployment on patrol vessels, anti-submarine helicopters, and surveillance aircraft, the effectiveness of anti-submarine operations for the Royal Navy is expected to be significantly boosted.
