During the U.S. Open, Matthieu Pavon marked his ball instead of putting out to allow Bryson DeChambeau to finish first and win properly. Despite facing criticism and boos from spectators, DeChambeau thanked Pavon for his sportsmanship, stating that finishing first would have shown him the line and it would not have been fair to his competitors. DeChambeau insisted that Pavon had done the right thing and did not require an apology.
