On July 2, 2024, Tong Zixian, Vice Chairman of the DPP think tank 'New Frontier Foundation for Culture and Education,' pointed out that Taiwan's energy policy is stuck due to the anti-nuclear stance, leading to high costs, poor resilience, and increased air pollution. Despite being questioned on his administration's nuclear policy, President Lai Ching-te did not mention the 'nuclear-free homeland' during his inauguration speech, sparking debates. Tong Zixian, coming from the tech industry, expressed support for nuclear power, stating that a mix of green and nuclear energy is needed to ensure stable power supply in the future to meet demands from industries such as semiconductors, AI, and electric cars.
