ByteDance Ltd. and Broadcom Inc. are in talks regarding a potential collaboration to create a 5-nanometer purpose-built AI chip, which would comply with US trade restrictions on China. While no deal has been finalized, Broadcom currently supplies an older-generation 7nm AI processor for use in ByteDance's data centers. If an agreement is reached, the customized chip would be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., aiming to ensure a stable chip supply for ByteDance's various services, including TikTok, Douyin, and Toutiao.
