California Democrats, including Governor Gavin Newsom and the state Legislature, have agreed to defer a planned minimum wage increase for approximately 426,000 health care workers in order to help balance the state budget. The delay pushes back the wage increase from July 1 to October 15, contingent upon a 3% increase in state revenues between July and September. If this condition is not met, the increase will be postponed until at least January. The minimum wage for health care workers was set to increase to $25 per hour, impacting the state budget due to health care workers employed by California and health benefits paid for through the Medicaid program.
