Cancer tops the list for 42 consecutive years, with one cancer death every 9 minutes and 53 seconds

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare's statistics, cancer has been the leading cause of death for 42 years, with an average of one person dying from cancer every 9 minutes and 53 seconds, which has accelerated by 14 seconds compared to 2022. Lung cancer has been the top cancer causing death for 20 years. In 2023, a total of 53,126 people died from cancer, accounting for 25.8% of all deaths, with the most deaths attributed to trachea, bronchus, and lung cancers. The Health Promotion Administration has been promoting low-dose computed tomography scans for high-risk populations to detect cancer early and improve survival rates.
