The Ministry of Environment will address concerns about the economic impact of carbon pricing and its influence on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) with various scenarios during the fourth rate review committee on July 5. A report suggested Taiwan could start implementing carbon pricing through carbon fees, gradually increasing the levels to ensure effective reduction incentives, but did not assess the impact on GDP or CPI. The Ministry also explained the emission calculation for charging carbon fees based on the draft regulations, considering different risk coefficients for industries to adjust emission levels. Public feedback and suggestions are welcome as the ministry prepares for further public consultations and cross-agency communications in July to enhance the carbon pricing system.
