Cargo Ship Fire After Releasing Racing Pigeons, 12 Crew Members Stranded on Deck with 3 Suffering Burn Injuries

Early in the morning of June 12, 2024, a cargo ship released racing pigeons at sea, but the ship's engine room exploded, causing a fire. The engine room was engulfed in flames off the coast of a dock in Kaohsiung Port, with 12 crew members temporarily trapped before they were rescued by helicopter and coast guard vessels, resulting in 3 crew members being treated for burn injuries. The ship, named 'Hui Feng Lun,' had to be abandoned as the fire continued to burn for over six hours. The cause of the fire and the possibility of diesel leakage from the ship's remaining 45 tons of fuel are currently under investigation.
