Carmakers face $7.6 billion UK dieselgate lawsuits

Reported about 1 year ago

Some of the world's major carmakers, including Mercedes-Benz and Ford, are facing at least 1.5 million lawsuits in the UK for allegedly cheating emissions tests, which could cost them over 6 billion pounds ($7.6 billion) according to claimants' lawyers. The ongoing fallout from the 2015 Volkswagen scandal involves claims from diesel vehicle owners who accuse manufacturers of using 'defeat devices' to manipulate emissions levels. Manufacturers deny misleading customers about compliance with emissions standards, and Volkswagen has already incurred significant costs from the 'dieselgate' scandal.
