On June 16, 2024, the Army Officer Academy celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding, with President Lai Ching-te highlighting the history of the academy and emphasizing the spirit of Whampoa Military Academy. He reiterated Taiwan's standing against China's actions in the Taiwan Strait, stating that the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China are not subordinate to each other. Criticizing the idea of "the first battle is the last battle" as surrenderism, President Lai stressed the importance of defending national sovereignty and the right of Taiwan's future being decided by its people. The event saw displays of historical uniforms and a march reminiscent of past military ceremonies.
