Central Bank: Promoting Digital Currency Not an International Competition, Holding Public Hearings, Discussing Legal Framework in 2025

The Central Bank clarified that promoting digital currency is not an international competition and plans to hold several public hearings, briefings, and forums in 2025 to discuss and explain the initiative, as well as work on the legal framework. Legislative Yuan's Finance Committee is scheduled to invite the Central Bank President Yang Chin-long on the 8th to give a special report on 'Planning for Digital Currency Issuance and Digital Transformation of Currency.' The report revealed the Central Bank's plan for digital currency, which involves a prototype platform, dual-tier issuance structure, privacy protection, security management, various retail payment functions, and extensive communication with stakeholders. It emphasizes the need for widespread and cautious communication, including conducting surveys and organizing events in 2025 to enhance public awareness and meet digital payment needs.
