During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the Central Cross-Island Highway's fleet encountered a significant amount of rockfall at the Ming Tunnel exit in the 17.3-kilometer section due to continuous rainfall in the mountainous area. The road was temporarily closed on the 9th and only reopened at noon on the 10th after the rockfall was cleared. Scholars have suggested considering constructing the road along the river valley, similar to National Freeway No. 6, to prevent future incidents of rockfall. After intense repair work, the fleet was able to pass through smoothly with the guidance of traffic personnel. This incident is part of a series of rockfall disruptions along the Central Cross-Island Highway section between Guanguan and Deji, which has faced multiple interruptions due to earthquakes and heavy rainfall. The Transportation Bureau of Taichung City has confirmed the feasibility of constructing elevated roads along the river valley as part of the reconstruction plan.
