Amid the impact of earthquakes on the tourism and accommodation industry, the Yilan County Government requested promotion subsidies from the central government in April. While East Taiwan is granted NT$1 billion for tourism accommodation support, the Tourism Bureau only approved NT$5 million for Yilan for marketing expenses. This led to discontent among accommodation industry players who view the allocation as insufficient and unjust compared to the support given to other regions like Hualien. Amid a significant drop in occupancy rates during the recent Dragon Boat Festival holiday, Yilan accommodation businesses are rejecting the meager subsidy and calling for fair treatment in line with the region's importance in the tourism chain with Hualien and Taitung.
