The revised draft for 'Healthcare Facility Setup Standards' has not been implemented yet. Prior to Health Minister Chiu Tai-Yuan's appointment in May this year, he was criticized by disability groups for leading opposition against the accessibility-related provisions in the standards. Medical groups acknowledge the need for a friendly barrier-free healthcare environment but find difficulty in implementing the revised standards due to challenges in changing the layout of grassroots clinics, many of which are rented spaces. Despite the draft proposing to increase accessibility in clinics, the legislation has not been enacted, with Chiu Tai-Yuan being called out as a key opponent by disability groups.
