Challenges in US-China Relations: Former Ford Foundation Director Concerned about Deepening Misunderstandings

Reported 12 months ago

Despite the recent resumption of 'panda diplomacy' between the US and China, tensions persist, with the US ambassador to China uncommonly criticizing Beijing for inciting anti-American sentiments. Gao Qianqian, the former Ford Foundation director for China who has been promoting bilateral relations for over 20 years in mainland China, expressed concern over the lack of dialogue between the two countries. With both sides demonizing each other, she warned that this could lead to more misunderstandings, emphasizing the urgent need for communication to break the chain reaction of strained relations caused by the lack of exchange and understanding, particularly exacerbated during the pandemic, and stressed the importance of continuous high-level dialogues despite disagreements to maintain communication and avoid misjudgments in their complex relationship.
