On July 9, 2024, the Taoyuan District Prosecutor's Office filed an appeal for the second time against the decision of the Taoyuan District Court to release former SEF Chairman Cheng Wen-ts'an on bail. Following a hearing, Cheng's bail was raised to 12 million yuan with three restrictions, prompting the prosecutor to appeal again. The Supreme Court received the appeal at 8:40 pm on the same day and will decide on whether to uphold or return the case for a new bail hearing as soon as the 10th. The court found Cheng admitted to accepting bribes but denied allegations of money laundering and insufficiently explained the evidence of concealment and cover-up methods for money laundering. It also noted no substantial evidence for leaking secrets or obstructing justice by Cheng or his aides, leading to the decision to release him on bail.
