Former Taoyuan Mayor and Chair of the Straits Exchange Foundation Cheng Wen-tsan is suspected of violating the Anti-Corruption Act. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office brought him in for questioning yesterday and applied for detention. However, the Taoyuan District Court ruled this morning to release Cheng Wen-tsan on a NT$5 million bail. Vice President stayed silent about the issue at an event, while DPP legislators Wu Pei-yi and Su Chiao-hui expressed shock and respect for the judiciary, hoping for a prompt clarification of the facts. Cheng Wen-tsan's alleged involvement in corruption cases has sparked a wave of responses from various political figures.
