China has lowered inflation targets across nearly all provinces, with many aiming for around 2% this year, as it grapples with ongoing deflationary pressures. The national inflation goal may also drop below 3% for the first time in over 20 years, marking a significant shift from previous targets. With consumer inflation only at 0.2% in 2023, economists suggest that this change indicates a more realistic approach to managing the economy amid weak domestic demand and the threat of increasing U.S. tariffs.
