Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairman Lai Ching-te warned that China's recently publicized 22 articles for punishing Taiwan's independence include the possibility of applying the death penalty for the most severe offenses. Lai emphasized that the broad and unrestricted nature of these regulations could potentially impact over 90% of Taiwan's population under the law. He urged unity within the ruling party in response to these measures and emphasized the need for Taiwan to collectively face China's threats to its democracy.
