China's Inflation and Factory Deflation in May

Reported 7 months ago

China's consumer inflation remained steady in May with factory deflation easing slightly according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. The data suggests that more stimulus may be needed to boost demand amid weak consumption and a slow economic recovery. Economists recommend stronger fiscal and monetary measures to sustainably increase demand, as the Consumer Price Index rose 0.3% while Producer Prices fell at a slower pace of 1.4%. The report indicates challenges in boosting domestic demand, with expectations for additional support measures to reach the GDP growth target of 'around' 5% for the year.
