On June 23, 2024, Kaohsiung Mayor Ko Wen-je visited a tourist factory in Liujia Orchid Garden, Taiwan. When asked about China's announcement of imposing the death penalty on separatists, Ko criticized the CCP, likening their actions to pushing Taiwanese people further away and closer to the US. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the political polarization in Taiwan and questioned the need to intentionally manipulate recall attempts. Additionally, Ko commented on controversies surrounding the cost of a forum event and expressed frustration with continuous political confrontations.
