Chinese-Australian Relations Thaw? Li Keqiang Offers Another Gift: 15-Day Visa-Free Entry for Australian Citizens

Reported 8 months ago

During China's Premier Li Keqiang's official visit to Australia, following the lifting of import restrictions on barley, wine, and beef, Li announced that Australian citizens will be exempted from visas for 15 days. Additionally, both countries will issue multiple-entry visas valid for 3 to 5 years for business, tourism, and family visit purposes to enhance bilateral relations. Despite focusing on economic, trade, and education issues in public, concerns over geopolitical relations and the situation of Australian Chinese writer Yang Hengjun still persist in the Australian government's interactions with Beijing. The visit comes after a period of strained diplomatic ties in 2020, marked by various conflicts and retaliatory measures from Beijing towards Australia.
