Chinese Authorities Detain Taiwanese Fishing Vessel: Tsai Ming-yen Identifies Two Motives Behind the Unusual Act

On July 3, 2024, at 10:56 PM, National Security Bureau Director Tsai Ming-yen stated that China's detention of a Taiwanese fishing vessel was unusual. The Penghu-registered fishing vessel 'Da Jin Man 88' was detained by Chinese maritime police on the 2nd of this month and taken, along with 6 crew members, to Weitou Port in Fujian. Tsai Ming-yen mentioned in an interview on the 4th that this act was unusual, and the government would evaluate if there were traces of 'cognitive warfare' behind it. He also emphasized the need for positive interaction between both sides to ensure a constructive development in cross-strait relations, and analyzed the possible motives behind China's actions from both legal and political perspectives.
