Chinese automaker BYD inaugurated its first electric vehicle plant in Thailand, part of its expansion into Southeast Asia while navigating challenges in the U.S. and Europe. The new factory in Rayong has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles and will produce several BYD models, batteries, and transmissions. Thailand aims to have 30% of its vehicles be electric by 2030, and BYD plans to manufacture the Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, and Sealion 6 EV models in the new plant, creating 10,000 jobs.
