The Chinese Communist Party's Taiwan Affairs Office recently announced regulations on punishing 'Taiwan independence' activities, with the harshest penalty being the death sentence for 'subverting state power'; in response, the Mainland Affairs Council stated that Beijing has no judicial jurisdiction over Taiwan. Ko Wen-je, chairman of the People First Party, criticized the CCP for consistently creating tension and pushing Taiwanese people further towards the United States. He also addressed criticisms of his party's alignment with the CCP, pointing out the similarities between the Democratic Progressive Party and the CCP and emphasizing that the DPP has been called 'Green-Communist' just like how the People First Party is now being labeled a CCP sympathizer.
