Chinese Man Arrested for Crossing Tamsui River by Boat in Taiwan, Claims No Regrets Coming to Taiwan

On June 17, 2024, at 7:57 a.m., a male Chinese national surnamed Ruan, when asked why he came to Taiwan and if he regretted it, responded, 'I do not regret it.' Ruan, who faces charges for violations related to cross-strait relations and immigration laws, was arrested by the Shilin District Prosecutors Office for illegally entering Taiwan by boat and having no fixed place of residence, posing a flight risk upon release. Prosecutors successfully applied for his detention and restricted visitation rights in court. The investigation is on-going to clarify Ruan's motives for coming to Taiwan.
