On June 10, 2024, at 5:46 a.m., a man of mainland Chinese nationality was apprehended by coast guard personnel in New Taipei City near the Danshui River mouth for attempting to enter Taiwan via a speedboat. The Danshui River mouth has been considered a possible landing point for the People's Liberation Army to infiltrate and attack Taiwan's political and economic center directly, which led the Army's Sea Dragon Frog Brigade to reinforce the defense there in July.
