In a recent domestic violence case in China, a man named Hao was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a 2-year deprivation of political rights for beating his wife with the soles of sport shoes until she died. The incident occurred after Hao discovered his wife, Zhao, cheating on him and seeking a divorce in August 2023. Following an argument, Hao physically assaulted Zhao and then used the sneakers to beat her for 20 minutes, leading to her death. Despite showing remorse by voluntarily turning himself in and reaching a compensation agreement with Zhao's family, Hao was still convicted of intentional injury. The court acknowledged Zhao's role in exacerbating the conflict and granted leniency due to Hao's remorseful behavior post-incident.
