On June 10, 2024, a man surnamed Ruan in his 60s was caught after illegally crossing from a Chinese fishing port to Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf in Taiwan. Ruan, restricted from leaving China due to unfavorable comments, used a speedboat to cross the Taiwan Strait alone in hopes of finding freedom. He was arrested upon arrival, investigated, and is now under the custody of the Immigration Agency. The incident involved a collision with a ferry in Tamsui River, leading to Ruan being detained for violating laws regarding cross-strait relations.
