Reported about 1 year ago
A Chinese man surnamed Ruan attempted to cross the Taiwan Strait on a speedboat and arrived in Taiwan at the Danshui Fisherman's Wharf, where his boat collided with a ferry and he was subsequently arrested by the Coast Guard on June 9. Ruan claimed he was restricted from leaving China due to expressing unfavorable opinions, leading him to seek 'freedom' in Taiwan. Prosecutors transferred him to the Immigration Bureau for detention after questioning. The incident violated cross-strait relations laws and immigration regulations, with Ruan being processed by the Shilin District Prosecutors Office. He was later released by immigration authorities as nothing illegal was found on the boat.
