On June 10, 2024, at 6:39 AM, Coast Guard personnel arrested a Chinese national who drove a speedboat into the Tamsui Ferry Pier in New Taipei City. Nationalist Party legislator Hung Meng-Kai suggested clarifying the man's motives, while Democratic Progressive Party legislator Hong Shen-Han stated that the Coast Guard should have handled the situation further out at sea. The man, claiming to seek freedom and to seek refuge in Taiwan, collided with a passenger boat at the pier, leading to his arrest and subsequent transfer for processing. The man was cooperative during the arrest and questioning, and no prohibited items were found on board. The man has been returned to the custody of the Immigration Office for repatriation arrangements.
