Speculations point to the unusual nature of this appearance which may suggest technical issues or strategic avoidance. The submarine is believed to be heading from its second submarine base in the South China Sea to a shipyard in the north for annual maintenance, carrying advanced missiles with a range of over 10,000 kilometers. The move towards the northern route could possibly be to evade detection by American and Japanese forces. Fishermen capturing images of foreign warships can earn rewards ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 Taiwan dollars according to naval reward regulations.
