On June 21, 2024, with a crowd of over 20,000 people, there was an unsuccessful attempt to block amendments to legislation involving the exercise of legislative powers and criminal laws in Taiwan. Despite this, a spontaneous citizen movement called the 'Bluebird Movement' continued to gather strength. Cao Xingcheng, a founder of TSMC, stated his goal to remove legislators appointed by the Chinese Communist Party in Taiwan next year, emphasizing the importance of defending Taiwan's democracy and freedom against potential Chinese aggression. He mentioned the recent report by the European Parliament highlighting the distinct status of Taiwan from China, causing China to view Taiwan as a threat to its regime. Cao emphasized the need to prevent internal Chinese influence in Taiwan and advocated for continued civil disobedience actions to safeguard Taiwan's future and democracy. He urged sustained activism to prevent Chinese interference in Taiwan's governance.
