Clash Over Amendments to Election Law in Taiwan Parliament

Reported about 1 year ago

In Taiwan's parliament, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislators occupied the chairman's podium in the Internal Affairs Committee room to block amendments to the Recall and Election Law. Nationalist Party (KMT) legislators proposed raising the recall threshold, leading to a confrontation with DPP members who opposed the move. Amid chaos and shouting, the DPP eventually succeeded as KMT legislators, led by Fu Kun-chi, retreated from the committee. Various civic groups have protested against the proposed changes, with over 1500 people gathering outside the parliament, warning legislators not to undermine people's recall rights.
