Due to unusually high temperatures, the flowering rates of longan and lychee trees have decreased to only 2-3%, impacting honey bee colonies and resulting in a significant decrease in honey production in counties such as Kaohsiung, Changhua, and Taichung in Taiwan. The Ministry of Agriculture has announced cash assistance for areas affected by the lack of bee colonies/natural honey sources, allowing eligible beekeepers to apply for relief before June 28th. This is the first time that beekeepers have been included in the assistance program, aiming to reduce farmers' losses caused by climate change affecting honey production.
