On July 5, 2024, Cloud County Council Chairman Huang Kai (independent) was suspected of being involved in a green energy and solar power corruption case, allegedly using his authority to take bribes from businesses, protect them, and assist in obtaining local permits. The New Taipei District Prosecutor's Office mobilized 100 personnel for searches, seizing luxury cars, watches, and millions in cash. After overnight interrogations, Huang Kai and 3 Cloud County government officials were detained along with 21 others for questioning. Following a night of questioning, the prosecution charged Huang Kai with corruption and applied for detention, which was approved by the court in the afternoon.
