CNN is set to lay off approximately 200 employees as part of a restructuring aimed at enhancing its digital business. CEO Mark Thompson indicated that while the television segment will see job cuts, these will be balanced by future hires in digital initiatives, including subscription products. This shift follows declining viewership and aims to reposition CNN towards streaming news on various devices, backed by $70 million from parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.
