Colonel implicated in watering down! Military bulletproof vest fraud case, 4 people detained without bail by the prosecution

Reported 9 months ago

A scandal involving the purchase of new military bulletproof vests has surfaced, where the contract specified that the anti-ballistic fiber fabric must be made in Taiwan, but the company mixed in Chinese-made products. The district prosecutor's office in Taoyuan received information that the involved company was planning to leave the country, prompting a search operation and the detention of multiple individuals for investigation. A colonel surnamed Lin and three company personnel are suspected of violating government procurement laws, with the court later ordering their release without bail. The prosecution is considering whether to appeal. Investigations found that the company used cheaper Chinese-made fabrics to save costs, leading to concerns over product quality and noncompliance. Efforts to leave the country raised suspicions of an attempted escape. Searches were conducted at various locations, leading to the detention of the colonel and company personnel. After questioning, discrepancies in their statements and suspicions of collusion and evidence tampering led to the prosecution's request for their detention. However, the court decided that detention was unnecessary and ordered their release without bail, pending further decisions by the prosecution.
