Concerns about Imported Milk Impacting Local Industry, Legislator Lai Hui-yuan Calls for Renaming to 'Long-lasting Milk'

Reported 8 months ago

Legislator Lai Hui-yuan expressed concerns that with the Taiwan-New Zealand Economic Cooperation Agreement set to take effect, zero-tariff imports of New Zealand milk will affect domestic dairy farming. The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that milk with a shelf life of more than 30 days will be labeled 'long-lasting fresh milk.' Lai hopes the government renames this to 'long-lasting milk,' promotes the use of locally produced fresh milk in school lunches, and ensures market differentiation between imported and local milk for consumer clarity and to support the local dairy industry.
