Copyright Infringement on 'Cultural Night Light' Giveaway Ends in Legal Troubles for Juguang Township Representative Meeting Chair and Vice Chair

Reported 8 months ago

The popularity of Mazu Lighthouse cultural souvenirs has led to legal issues as the Lienchiang District Prosecutor's Office received reports that the Juguang Township Representative Meeting chair, Shih Li-bin, vice chair Chen Yen-cheng, without permission from the creator of the 'Dong Ju Lighthouse Cultural Night Light,' commissioned a manufacturer to produce 200 imitation night lights, which were then openly distributed as gifts by the representative meeting. After thorough investigation and questioning, the prosecutor's office found concrete evidence of infringement of the Copyright Act, leading to the prosecution of Shih, Chen, and the manufacturer. The involved night light that was wrongfully reproduced is in clear violation of the copyright law and was publicly displayed and sold at various locations in 2022. The district prosecutor's office emphasized the importance of respecting artists' copyright and obtaining proper consent before reproducing or altering their works to prevent legal consequences.
