According to the Taiwan CDC, there were 817 new cases of COVID-19 complications last week, a significant increase from the previous week, with elderly individuals aged 65 and above accounting for 79% of total complications. Additionally, there were 40 new deaths reported, with 90% of these fatalities occurring in the 65 and above age group. The CDC emphasizes the importance of vaccination, highlighting that receiving the COVID-19 vaccine significantly reduces the risk of severe illness or death. As the country faces a rising number of cases, particularly with the presence of dominant variants, the CDC urges those who have not yet received the vaccine to do so promptly to mitigate the risks associated with infection.
